So, Xylia Tales is having a fanart contest. I'd planned to do her fanart eventually anyway, and I was bored and procrastinating when I probably should've been catching up the pencils for my own comic, but hey.
So, here's a particularly sad looking Xylia.
EDIT: Aaaand, guess what! This picture apparently took first place in the contest (on the visual arts side)! Man, and to think I just did it for the heck of it. o_o Thanks to the 29 people who voted for me! That's just awesome! You should totally go and check out the other entries, though. Some awesome stuff there!
Well, thanks! I certainly didn't have high hopes for this picture... but apparently the people who voted for me did! Your entry was awesome, by the way--though I'd seen it ages ago too.

I think most of what's wonky about her hand is the angle of her arm with her body, and some distance issues. Oh and possibly and odd perspective/foreshortening issue with her middle finger. And then looking at my hand (which granted is one of those long-fingered hands, lol, but yes those are not the norm as far as hands go.) proportion-wise the length of your middle finger is often similar in length with your palm, and the other fingers are shorter, accordingly. So your pointer finger is a bit longish. idk, I think a lot of that could be fixed with creative shading, but that's just me. It still looks like a hand. /two cents
I love the volume of her hair. The play of light in the strands is quite lovely, and very alive. And I think aside from one of Gabriel's that's my favorite face I've ever seen you draw...

I'M NOT TOUCHING THE HAND! NOT! TOUCHING! THE HAND!
Look, srsly, six months ago my hands looked like shapeless, formless blobs. This is as good of a hand as I can get! I don't really need (three) in depth analysises of why the hand I drew is wrong. I know it's wrong. I could see it was wrong when I posted it. I'm just... not made of magic... I only improve so fast. I've gone from drawing wonky, stoned faces to expressive, detailed, anatomically correct faces... hands will come, maybe in another six months I'll have perfect, expressive hands... but seeing as I've gone from that to this already, how can I complain? How can I expect to have everything right now! Hands will come in due time. Due time was not yesterday. It is not today. It will be a gradual thing, just like my faces and expressions were.
In short: yeah, I know the hand is wrong, but six months ago I would've drawn a face on portrait with no hand because I knew I couldn't draw one correctly either.
XD
You really love that one face of Gabriel's, huh? I don't even know how I did it, just that it was a hard hitting, very intense face. I've never been able to quite duplicate that one. Apparently I draw fairly expressive faces now. I wouldn't know. I can't recognize an expression unless it's cartoony to death and I suppose what I do here is more subtle... so I actually can't see what you guys see in the expression.
But yeah, it was a good portrait.
And hair. Floaty shiny hair! I still ought to do a hair tutorial. Apparently I'm fairly good at making hair come to life. I guess I don't really see it. I can't see the good in my art. (sigh)
/EMO MOMENT
Thanks for the comment! ^^

Now I'm imagining a picture with someone holding up a mask that says 'D:' Like, all greek mask style... yeah.
Gabriel and Falahil (and of course, logically, Rease) are my favorite characters to paint. I think he's my only guy that looks like a guy anymore. Oops.

And yes I am quite in love with that portrait. There are a few images of him that I like, but that one pretty much takes the cake.
I never know what I'm doing with expression at all beyond like
