I'm starting a new project. If I have any fans, it's the story I wrote for my NaNoWriMo in November 2012.

Caedhwl is cursed. He never sleeps. Every night, his dreams bleed out into the real world. They've never hurt anyone until now. To save the village, he'll be dragged back into the ancient mystery of the gates, including the one he thought he left behind fifteen years ago: Stargazer's Gate.

This might be the first page. Would you click next?

Stargazer's Gate is the sum of all the things I learned from Between Places. I admit it's thematically similar initially, featuring a character who has issues with nightmares. The story is complete prior to me drawing it. It starts in media res, but hopefully not too in media res. It features multiple distinct villains, the cast is not in fact never ending, and I personally think it has a few nice twists and turns. It'll be a digital genre-bending graphic novel, of course completely free somewhere on the internet! If you like what you see, leave a comment. It might be starting sooner than you think.

I think it interesting, especially after reading "Oh yea, my sister". For me it shows, that the main character isn't interested in his siter or finds her annoying and tells us about his sister, because it is something that might be important.
As for now, the only thing we have are bodyless voices floating in the void, watching the fireworks.
The question is, if it's a power they are using or if the image isn't showing them for other purposes...
I'd continue reading just to find out, what's going on and how the characters look like.

Mostly I'm not showing them to transition from showing the setting to an interior, kind of a "pan across the scene" deal? I wanted to set the stage so when it shows up again I want the viewer to have an unsettling sense of familiarity. I could have shown them but I wanted the focus to be on the setting, and it seems like by feedback people like the tiny initial mystery?

The next page shows what the two characters look like and what shenanigans Atrina is getting into. :)

In retrospect I think it should be clearer that Leawyn is the narrator.

Thanks for your feedback.

No problem.
And a small idea: how about not connecting the speech bubbles to anywhere? Does make it look like the voices are audible, but the speakers not around. With your solution I do get more the feeling, that they are bodyless entities talking in the air.

Well, thank you. That's the kind of feedback I like to hear! I hope you're following me, I'll definitely be announcing it here and on my Twitter, @metruis, as well as posting a few other pages. I'm aiming for a mid-March launch date, and it will hopefully be at stargazersgate.com (nothing there yet).

When I read your blurb about this on facebook, I thought this was set in present times, not the distant future. Out of curiosity, what is the tech level? Has man gone to other planets, or are they still on Earth only. Is this going to be a really sci-fi type story, or a drama/supernatural that just happens to be in the future?

SPOILER ALERT.

Yeah, it's definitely not present-age! It's actually well after a post-apocalyptic future, my secret weakness is worldbuilding on the bones of a civilization that destroyed itself. One of my favorite things in Star Wars EU was how say, Korriban clearly had been occupied well before KotOR and there's all this abandoned remnants of history to be found and interpreted. Or Mass Effect, similar sort of theme.

So, the world gets pretty well totaled and set back to level 0. Tech level on the main planet, Damera, is presently at the early 1900s. Steam trains, cars on the Model A level, telegraphs, clockwork. The other major planet explored did not have a crash, and is at a hard science fiction level, space travel, technology advanced well beyond ours.

I would hold that Stargazer's Gate is fantasy/steampunk/adventure by theme and presentation, but there are multiple inhabited planets, at least one alien race, and the remaining advanced technology of the gates, not to mention space travel.

So think Knights of the Old Republic, but instead of starting in space, you start in Gondor.

It's definitely not going to be military science fiction by any stretch of the imagination. We'll stick with "it's space fantasy", maybe, which is to be honest what I'd consider Star Wars and its EU. Then we get down to the argument of significantly advanced science might as well be magic and other nitty gritty questions of genre.

I wouldn't say it just "happens" to be in the future because that's a critical part of the setting, but it's not hard science fiction by a long shot. Still, you might enjoy it!

Well, how often are you going to give us additions of this? Is this something that is already made and you are going to release a page every set interval or are you writing/drawing it as you go?

It's written, just not in script form. Right now I'm just hashing out the art details and running over the novel to turn it into a script, character designs, etc, and then I hope to do either a three pages a week release schedule. Probably S/T/T, that worked well for me before. I'll post pages on here as I do them for now until I have the official site ready to launch. :)
