This is Caedhwl Calthye, the main character of Stargazer's Gate. He was looking a bit too Luke Skywalker in his last rendition but now I'm thinking he looks a bit Dave Strider... can't win!

So I've been poking Caed's design for a while and I think this is what I've settled on. It's subtle, but there's motifs throughout all of Stargazer's Gate's concept art, so you can pick out character associations just by their design. A non-spoilerific example is Caed's gray shirt. Every single character born on Damera wears something gray, with a star pattern of varying complexity in their design. Caed's fairly low down on the social ladder, so his is just gray with spots. There are other planets and each one has a visual theme that works its way into native's costume designs, regardless of what other motifs the character's taken on.

This is what I'm aiming for the final comic style... painted backgrounds with colored lineart and a more painted shading. Depending on how long it takes me to render a page like this, though, I might have to drop either the colored lineart or just go with flat shading. I'm aiming for a crisper look than Between Places, as well as a style that'll more easily let me render things like space ships which might possibly be featured in this story.

(cough)

Stay tuned!

When I looked at it I thought that you've drawn a fanart of Link from the Legend of Zelda series, there are similarities: Green tunik like clothes, blond hair, sword on the back.
Interesting enought you've given him sunglasses in a dark envyroment, which suggests to me, that he might be blind (Especially with the shape of the glasses)
I like your idea with the clothing scheme, lower social classes wearing more gray things and it shows on the character, since his shirt hangs like rags on a clothesline. I'm interested in the dagger he's holding and what shape it has. Depending on that it might be, that he's cutting himself by holding it wrong (Plus some work on his right hand might do the job ;) )
So far the character looks interesting, I'm intersted in what he'll do.

Yeah, I know I trashed his hand. Whatever, it's not work for a cover or anything, just developmental design. I hate inking so much that even if I've totally mucked up I'm willing to go 'screw this shit' and not edit it, ahaha. ;) I suppose that alone's a reason to chose to not do the entire comic art in that style. D:

It's supposed to just be like a 0====|====> dagger, same design as the sword handle.

I guess it is similar to Link, though the tunic design isn't really like Link's at all... I'll avoid pointy hats and maybe consider changing how he carries his sword to back to a waist sheath. And there will be no shields! I didn't consider that similarity. >_>

Don't even get me started on social systems, and clothing motifs. There are so many motifs. All of the motifs. But yeah, he's kind of a loner ranger as of story current time so his social standing is pretty low.

The sunglasses are kind of more of a symbolic seeing into the dark world since Dream-aligned character? And possibly hiding an eye-related spoiler... ahem.

How do you draw your characters?
Do you first draw them with a pencil and then color them or do you work with colors entirely?
I like the art style and if you work a bit on the models it shouldn't be a problem for you to draw them mostly flawless :)

That would make sense, the right hand is in an odd angle. It looks like he's holding the blade. Might be an idea to draw the [not-blade part] a bit further than the hand.

I'm a LoZ fan, so that's what I think of first when green simple clothed characters appear ^^"

Special eyes are usually interesting. Luckily I'm unaffected by spoilers.
