Alcatraz Texture Pack 1 by calthyechild Alcatraz Texture Pack 1 by calthyechild
EDIT: Thanks for the DD! Here's a link to texture pack 2, 30 MORE free textures from Alcatraz! Watch me for the upcoming actual location stock. [link]

30 UNRESTRICTED stock textures. Urban decay, rust, stone, peeling paint, vines, that kind of thing! In pack one you will find 30 textures of:

Cracked stone tiles. Concrete with weeds growing out of it. Dead vines on cracked stone. Moldy painted stone. Weird wood patterned stone. Algae stone. A sign that says 'fire hose' with holes in it. Blurry paint. Diamond fencing. Peeling paint. Brick. Brick with algae on it. Dirt. Leaves and cracked stone. Battered concrete. Broken streaky concrete.

That is what is in pack one, in varying amounts. That is what you get. Every picture was snapped by me at Alcatraz on an overcast day. You may get the itching feeling that by "pack one" there are more to come. That's right, there's going to be another texture pack, plus a few STOCK IMAGE packs! Oh-ho, get excited, horror fans, I've got some killer settings for you and they will, as with all of my stock, be UN-R----ESTRICT-----ED!!! 38D

My stock rules are simple. Use'm, abuse'm, but if you repost them as your own art I will bite you. Do not repost my stock as your own.

I do NOT demand:
-You link back (Only if you feel like it, please!)
-You credit me (As above!)
-You comment. (I do appreciate it, but you don't have to.)
-You show me what you made. (Not that I mind, but really, if you don't remember who made that texture I will not come back and bite your face off.)
-You only use on DeviantArt (USE THEM WHERE YOU WANT! Your webcomic, your site about dogs, your illustrated steampunk novel, whatever! Shocking but true, there's life outside of DA.)
-You can't use commercially. (And I don't care if you sell art made with my stock.)

I do request that you favorite the pack so other people can find it. Donations, linkbacks, whatever... all that stuff is welcome but unnecessary. This is unrestricted stock. If you appreciate it, the single best thing you can do for me is to make your own stock/brushes/resources and spread them as unrestricted stock.

My "unrestricted" is genuinely unrestricted. Have fun.

Thank you for being so liberal with your stock photos. I am a comic book artist and I really appreciate it. :)

I am also a webcomic artist and similarly, I like to not have to worry about the resources I'm using. Can I suggest you check out Comic Fury for a better place to host your comic though? DeviantArt is crappy for the reader experience, and CF gives you a free site with better functionality.

No need to thank me. I'm not the stock artist that DeviantArt wannnts... I'm the stock artist that DeviantArt neeeeeeeeeeeds.

But yeah, go crazy. Once in a while I read a webcomic and see my brushes or stock and I'm like 'heeeeey I recognize that'.

I really ought to get my next pack together sometime. Had a whole batch of Alkatraz backgrounds... more map brushes... ahh but it's so much work in between comic and commissions.

Thank you! Yeah, I never really liked DA for comics. I tried Smackjeeves, but it didn't work for me. I will be sure to try Comic Fury.

Keep up the good work!

Smackjeeves is a little finicky. I can code a site by hand but I had trouble figuring it out. Also it really only seems to be home to things like yaoi manga... not that I have a problem with that, but as a creator of a speculative fantasy comic I didn't feel like I really had an audience there. Cheers.

Ooohhh!!! thank you! using one of these in a Doctor Who piece I'm doing. I know I don't need to credit you, but I'm going to =) These are awesome textures, and it makes my work load a lot lighter. Trying to make descent textures for digital is a bitch. Thanks again!

Hope your piece turns out awesome. I'd love to see it when it's done. I won't stop you from crediting me if you want to, I just feel that since I only use textures and brushes I don't have to credit, I should also return the favor and allow my stock work for free use. Also with how popular my stock and brushes have gotten, I would be overwhelmed by messages if everyone who used them messaged me!

Actually, making decent textures is hellishly fun and I encourage anyone who uses a lot of them to try their hand at making their own (no need to worry about credit, then!). There's tons of ways to make them. These ones were just "take pictures of anything with an interesting texture". In order to achieve a similar effect, go for a walk with a camera and look at things as potential texture instead of things. Other great ways to make textures are with watercolor paints, vinegar, and salt. They do cool things to the wet paint.

But it's not for everyone. :D Hope your picture turns out great.
